- Brabantian or Brabantish, also: Brabantic is a dialect group of the Dutch language. It is named after the historical Duchy of Brabant which corresponded mainly to the Dutch province of North Brabant, the Belgian provinces of Antwerp and Flemish Brabant, as well as the institutional Region of Brussels-Capital (where its native speakers have become a minority) and the province of Walloon Brabant (where the use of French has caused the dialect to become extinct). Brabantian expands into small parts in the west of Limburg while its strong influence on the Flemish dialects in East-Flanders weakens towards the west. In the northwest of North Brabant, Hollandic is spoken. Conventionally, the South Guelderish dialects are distinguished from Brabantian, though there are no objective criteria apart from geography to do this. Because of the relatively large area in which Brabantian is spoken, it can be roughly divided in three sub-dialects: West Brabantian, spoken in the area west of the river Donge; in the west of North Brabant and in the north and west of the Province of Antwerp in Belgium. East Brabantian, spoken in the area east of the river Donge; in the middle and east of North Brabant, the east of the Province of Antwerp and the far west of the Province of Limburg. South Brabantian, spoken in the province of Flemish Brabant and the south of Antwerp. Brabantian is not recognized as a minority language in the Netherlands. Standard Dutch is partly based on Brabantian. About one third of the Dutch-speaking population lives in the Brabantian dialect zone. In large Dutch towns such as Breda and Eindhoven, where there are many people of Hollandic descent speaking standard Dutch, Brabantian dialects have been largely abandoned, whereas in rural areas many people still speak the original dialect. Tilburg and 's-Hertogenbosch, however, have a large number of people speaking the Brabantian dialect. In Belgium, dialects are still the common spoken language. In the capital of Brussels, French largely replaced Dutch in the middle of the 20th century. Despite this, there are many cultural activities using the Brussels dialect, and recently also at masses in a church in Jette. Moreover, use of Dutch is reviving among young Dutch-speaking families who are moving back from the suburbs toward the old city centre.

Im Nordwesten Brabants wird ein niederfränkischer holländischer Dialekt gesprochen. Der im Nordosten der Provinz Nordbrabant um Cuijk gesprochene Dialekt wird dem Kleverländischen zugeordnet. Wegen des relativ großen Sprachgebietes des Brabantischen, kann es grob in drei Subdialekte aufgeteilt werden: West-Brabants, gesprochen im Gebiet westlich vom Fluss Donge; im Westen von Nordbrabant und im Norden und Westen der Provinz Antwerpen in Belgien. Oost-Brabants, gesprochen im Gebiet östlich vom Fluss Donge; in der Mitte und im Osten Nordbrabants, dem Osten der Provinz Antwerpen und dem äußersten Westen der Provinz Limburg. Zuid-Brabants, gesprochen in der Provinz Flämisch-Brabant und dem Süden von Antwerpen. Das Standardniederländische basiert teilweise auf brabantischen Dialekten. Ungefähr ein Drittel der Bevölkerung mit niederländischer Muttersprache lebt im brabantischen Dialektraum. In den größeren niederländischen Städten wie Breda und Eindhoven, wo viele Leute holländische Dialekte sprechen, wurden brabantische Dialekte fallengelassen, wogegen in ländlichen Gegenden viele Menschen noch den örtlichen Dialekt sprechen. In Tilburg und 's-Hertogenbosch hingegen spricht eine große Zahl der Bewohner den brabantischen Dialekt. In Belgien sind Dialekte noch eine allgemein gesprochene Sprache. In der Hauptstadt Brüssel ersetzte Französisch das Niederländische in der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Trotzdem gibt es viele kulturelle Aktivitäten, die den alten Dialekt verwenden. Außerdem wird der Gebrauch des Niederländischen bei jungen niederländischsprachigen Familien, die zurück aus den Vororten in das alte Stadtzentrum ziehen, wiederbelebt.
- Le brabançon est un des deux dialectes principaux du néerlandais, aux côtés du hollandais. Il est parlé dans une grande partie du territoire de l'ancien duché de Brabant, actuellement divisé entre la Belgique et les Pays-Bas. Le dialecte bruxellois est la variante la plus connue dans le monde francophone, quoiqu'il soit aujourd'hui presque complètement supplanté par le français. Le brabançon est une langue régionale fort divisée. Les dialectes parlés au Brabant septentrional sont parfois très proches du néerlandais standardisé, alors que les dialectes méridionaux sont très spécifiques et sont moins facilement mutuellement intelligibles avec le néerlandais standard. Il est actuellement largement supplanté par le néerlandais standard, mais surtout le dialecte anversois est encore assez vivace. Aujourd'hui, beaucoup de Flamands parlent un tussentaal, « langue entre les deux », un régiolecte basé sur les dialectes brabançons. Le brabançon est reconnu par un décret de la Communauté française de Belgique comme langue endogène. La Flandre ne reconnait aucune langue régionale. Aux Pays-Bas où on reconnait d'ailleurs le frison, le limbourgeois et le bas-saxon, on le considère comme un dialecte néerlandais. Ethnologue enfin, quoiqu'il discerne beaucoup de langages différents aux Pays-Bas et en Belgique, ne (re)connait pas le brabançon. Le brabançon fut, avec le hollandais, le dialecte le plus important parmi les contributeurs à la langue néerlandaise standardisée; c'est la raison pour laquelle on le voit habituellement comme un dialecte du néerlandais.

Het Brabants is samen met het Hollands de belangrijkste pijler onder de Nederlandse standaardtaal – de eerste belangrijke standaardisering van het Nederlands vond in de 16e eeuw plaats in Antwerpen.
