Bougival is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. It is located in the western suburbs of Paris 15.3 km (9.5 mi) from the center. The remains of the Machine de Marly are located in Bougival and the commune was also the site where many of the French Masters painted country scenes. Today in Bougival, painting sites are marked by historical placards along the Seine. Georges Bizet composed Carmen in his house at the edge of the Seine in Bougival.
