- BOBCATSSS is an annual symposium organised by students at a number of universities in Europe. It was founded by Ruud Bruijns of the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and takes place under the auspices of EUCLID (European Association for Library and Information Education and Research) dealing with themes from library and information science. Every year it is organized, managed and filled with content by students from an Eastern and Western European university. All participating universities have a Library and Information sciences program. Target groups of the BOBCATSSS symposia are information specialists, students, professors in the field of Library and Information Education and Research and employees of libraries and information departments. It's unique that teams of students plan and realise both the content and the management of the symposium as a part of their studies. Due to this they profit a lot by border crossing teamwork with other European countries. The acronym The name BOBCATSSS is an acronym and describes the university network. The letters stand for the first letters of the cities of the universities that initiated the BOBCATSSS symposium in 1993: Budapest, Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tampere, Stuttgart, Szombathely and Sheffield. During the last years further members from Borås, Riga, Kharkiv, Moscow, Tallinn, Toru, Warsaw, Sofia, Ljubljana, Krakow, Bratislava, Prague, Osjiek, Zadar, Berlin and Potsdam have joined the network. History BOBCATSSS 2009 was the 17th symposium in a series of successful symposia. Every year it takes place under the auspices of EUCLID the European Association for Library and Information Education and Research.
- BOBCATSSS ist ein internationaler Kongress mit Themen aus der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, der jährlich unter der Schirmherrschaft von EUCLID (European Association for Library and Information Education and Research) von ost- und westeuropäischen Studenten gemeinsam organisiert wird. Der Name BOBCATSSS ist ein Akronym und steht für die Anfangsbuchstaben der Gründer-Städte, die das BOBCATSSS Symposium 1993 geschaffen und erstmals veranstaltet haben: Budapest, Oslo, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tampere, Stuttgart, Szombately, Sheffield. Während der letzten Jahre haben sich weitere Städte dem BOBCATSSS Netzwerk angeschlossen: Borås, Riga, Kharkiv, Moscow, Tallinn, Torun, Warsaw, Sofia, Ljubljana, Krakow, Bratislava und Budapest. Das inzwischen 18. BOBCATSSS-Symposium wird vom 25.-27. Januar 2010 unter dem Titel "Bridging the digital divide: libraries providing access for all?" in Parma, Italien stattfinden. Die Organisatoren von BOBCATSSS 2010 sind Studierende und Dozierende der University of Parma (Italien), der Manchester Metropolitan University (Großbritannien) und der Liverpool John Moores University (Großbritannien).
