Bob Foster is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA whom many boxing critics consider to be one of the greatest Light Heavyweight world champions in history. As an amateur he won a silver medal at the 1959 Pan American Games. Foster also tried fighting with Heavyweights often, but with very little luck. He was a tall boxer with long arms, physical attributes which helped to establish him as a long-standing champion, widely considered as the greatest light heavyweight of all time.

Malgré une défaite contre Mohamed Ali en poids lourds, Foster parvient à préserver ses deux ceintures 5 fois avant d'annoncer en septembre 1974 sa retraite.
