BLACK CROW RECORDS was originally an off-shoot of Rubber Records and was the brain child of Producer and Label Manager Geoff Heslop. Geoff felt that the identity of Rubber was getting a bit confused, and that a new label would make everything a lot more definite and clear. The label was owned by MWM Records in Newcastle upon Tyne, who handled all the production, marketing, sales and promotion.

- BLACK CROW RECORDS was originally an off-shoot of Rubber Records and was the brain child of Producer and Label Manager Geoff Heslop. Geoff felt that the identity of Rubber was getting a bit confused, and that a new label would make everything a lot more definite and clear. The label was owned by MWM Records in Newcastle upon Tyne, who handled all the production, marketing, sales and promotion. The first album came out in 1981 and featured The Champion String Band, a direct and exciting traditional folk trio. This was followed by an amazing run of albums by a mixture of artists, some of which were already well-known, Michael Chapman, Alan Hull, Bert Jansch, Rab Noakes, Allan Taylor, Bob Fox and Stu Luckley, coupled with some very talented new names, Kathryn Tickell, Simon Thoumire and Ian Carr, Chris Newman and Maire Ni Chathasaigh, Chuck Fleming and Gerry Kaley, and many more. The label was taken over by CM Records around 1986 and continued until 1993, when it disappeared from sight. As with all labels run by Geoff Heslop, Black Crow had a reputation for quality, talent and integrity which is remembered by many.
