Since the English Reformation there have been different bishops for the Roman Catholic Diocese and the Church of Ireland Diocese of Ossory and Cashel. The diocesan territory corresponds with the Kingdom of Ossory in the province of Leinster and County Kilkenny and County Laois. The diocese is centred on St Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny.
