The booklet on remastered version of the Out of the Blue album gives a hint, saying, "Total music and probably most the beer gardens in Munich (just by way of distraction. Plenty of soccer - to clear the head. " The song was not released as a single but did appear on box sets and compilations. "Out Of The Blue's Birmingham Blues was also in Jeff Lynne's hometown soccer team, the Birmingham Blues' honor. " Ira Robbins
