William Ross Short is a former major league pitcher. Short was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1955. He made his major league debut for the Yankees in 1960 and play his final game with the Reds in 1969. In 1959, Short was awarded the Most Valuable Pitcher award for the International League. During his playing career, Short reportedly had a throwing style similar to Whitey Ford and also had a 'sneaky' pickoff move to first base.
