- Big beat is a term employed since the mid 1990s by the British music press to describe much of the music by artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method, Propellerheads and The Prodigy, typically driven by heavy breakbeats and synthesizer-generated loops and patterns in common with established forms of electronic dance music such as Techno and Acid House.

Big beat es un término acuñado a mediados de los años 90 por la prensa de música británica como un modo de describir el trabajo del dúo de Mánchester. Fue definido por el trabajo de Fatboy Slim y The Prodigy. Se trata de un estilo ecléctico en el que convergen distintas tendencias musicales como son: rock, funk, hip-hop, house, punk, breakbeats comprimidos en ritmos moderados (por lo general entre 110 a 136 golpes por minuto), líneas de sintetizador ácidas y bucles de jazz heavy. Suele estar acompañado de un intenso estilo punk, con distorsionadas líneas de base y estructuras convencionales de canciones pop y sonido techno. O Big Beat tem em média 145 BPMs. Mas não só de elementos da dita e-music contemporânea compõem este tão miscigenado estilo. A black music também integra o que temos hoje quando no estilo citado, ficando claro influências que vão do mestre James Brown à cultura rap dos anos 90. Bandas como Bomb The Bass são considerados os patronos do gênero, considerando tempos de conhecimento digital instantâneo e, é claro, o bom gosto que antes podera.
