Erster Billboard-Top-40 Hit mit "Girls Can't Do What The Guys Do" 1968. In diesem Jahr erscheint auch das erste Solo-Album "My First Time Around". 1972 dann der Song, mit dem sie von Fans am stärksten identifiziert wird: "Clean Up Woman" (Platz 2 in den R&B, Platz 6 in den US-Pop-Charts). 1974 Grammy für den Song "Where Is The Love". Zwischen 1972 und 1979 insgesamt sieben Alben für das Label Alston von Henry Stone. Seitdem stetig Aufnahmen, aber ohne größere kommerzielle Erfolge (Letzte US-Single-Platzierung aus dem Jahr 1989, letztes Album "Fit For A King" aus 2001). Versuchte sich als TV-Talkshow Gastgeberin und ist weiter als Backup-Sängerin tätig. Unterstützte Newcomerin Joss Stone bei ihrem vielbeachteten Debüt von 2003, eines der besten Neo-Soul-Alben des Jahres.
