- Ben van Berkel (born 1957) is a Dutch architect. He studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and at the Architectural Association in London, receiving the AA Diploma with Honours in 1987. In 1988 he and Caroline Bos set up an architectural practice in Amsterdam. Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau has realized, amongst others projects, the Karbouw office building, the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen, the Moebius house, and the NMR facilities for the University of Utrecht In 1998 van Berkel and Bos relaunched their practice as UNStudio, the UN standing for "United Net". UNStudio presents itself as a network of specialists in architecture, urban development and infrastructure. With UNStudio, van Berkel has built several projects, including the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, a façade and interior renovation for the Galleria Department store in Seoul, Korea, and a private villa in up-state New York. Current projects are the restructuring of the station area of Arnhem, a shopping mall renovation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a masterplan for Basauri, Spain, a music theatre for Graz, Austria, the design and restructuring of the Harbor Ponte Parodi in Genoa, and an apartment building in the Tribeca section of Manhattan. In 2009 New Amsterdam Pavilion in Battery park New York was revealed. The pavilion was presented to New York by the Dutch government to celebrate 400 years relations between New York and the Netherlands. Ben van Berkel has lectured and taught at several architectural schools. Currently he is Dean of the Architecture Class at the Academy of Fine Arts Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Central to his teaching is the inclusive approach of architectural works, integrating virtual and material organization and engineering constructions.

Basados en su extensiva experiencia en el campo del urbanismo, infraestructura y diferentes edificios públicos y privados en distintas escalas. El estudio tiene planteados objetivs a largo plazo, cuya meta es definir y guiar la calidad de su performance en el campo arquitectónico. Se focalizan en lograr una contribución significante a la disciplina arquitectonica, para continuar desarrollando nuestras cualidades con respeto al diseño, la tecnología, el conocimiento y manejo, y ser especialistas en trabajos de desarrollo publico y tecnológico. En 1988 il fonde avec Caroline Bos une agence d'architecture à Amstersam, Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau, réalisant, en autres, le projet de l'immeuble de bureaux Karbouw, le pont Érasme à Rotterdam, le musée Het Valkhof à Nimègue, la maison Möbius et l'équipement NMR pour l'université d'Utrecht. En 1998, Ben van Berkel et Caroline Bos fonde une nouvelle agence, UNStudio (UN pour United Net, réseau uni). UNStudio se présente comme un réseau de spécialistes de l'architecture, de la programmation urbaine et des infrastructures. Les projets auxquels ils répondent sont alors des restructuration de l'espace urbain autour de la gare d'Arnhem, la rénovation du centre commercial à Kaohsiung, un plan d'ensemble pour le quartier autour de la gare de Basauri, une salle de concert à Graz et la restructuration de l'embarcadère Parodi dans le port de Gènes. Avec UNStudio il réalisa entre autres le musée Mercedes-Benz à Stuttgart, la façade et la rénovation intérieure des magasins Galleria à Séoul et une maison particulière, la VilLa NM au nord de New York. Ben van Berkel a fait des conférences et a enseigné dans de nombreuses écoles d'architecture dans le monde. Aujourd'hui il est professeur de design conceptuel à Städelschule de Francfort. Ce qui lui importe dans son enseignement est l'approche inclusive du travail architectural intégrant l'organisation et la construction technique virtuelle et matérielle.
