The 2008–09 season of the Belgian First Division (also known as Jupiler Pro League due to sponsorship reasons) was the 106th season of top-tier football in Belgium. The regular season began on 16 August 2008 and ended on 16 May 2009. Standard Liège were the defending champions. On 19 April 2009 Mons were relegated after Dender beat Roeselare 3–1 and made it mathematically impossible for Mons to climb into 16th position or higher.

The 2008–09 champions were decided in a playoff because Standard and Anderlecht finished the regular season equal on points and number of wins. Standard won the playoff by 2–1 on aggregate and thereby retained the title.

Ligy se zúčastnilo celkem 18 celků, soutěž se hrála způsobem každý s každým doma-venku (celkem tedy 34 kol). Jelikož kluby RSC Anderlecht a Standard Lutych dosáhly stejného počtu bodů po odehrání všech kol (byť měl Anderlecht lepší skóre), následoval dodatečný dvojzápas, ze kterého vzešel vítězně Lutych. Poslední dva celky sestoupily přímo do druhé divize, týmy z 15. a 16. místa musely sehrát baráž o uržení v lize z důvodu snížení počtu účastníků na 16 pro příští sezónu.

Questo torneo è l'ultimo a 18 squadre, avendo la Federazione stabilito, con una contestata riforma, la riduzione dei ranghi a 16 unità. In modo del tutto inusuale, la stagione è terminata con uno spareggio per l'assegnazione dello scudetto tra RSC Anderlecht e i campioni in carica dello Standard Liegi, con la vittoria di quest'ultimo, giunto così al 10° successo della sua storia. La classifica cannonieri è stata vinta dal colombiano del Westerlo, Jaime Alfonso Ruiz con 17 reti.

Standard Luik verlengde zijn landstitel na testwedstrijden tegen RSC Anderlecht. Het was de tiende titel voor Standard. Dit seizoen was het laatste seizoen met 18 clubs. Op zaterdag 17 mei 2008 kwam men namelijk in een Algemene Vergadering op de voetbalbond tot een akkoord om de hoogste voetbalklasse in de Belgische competitie vanaf 2009 in te krimpen van 18 naar 16 clubs, met play-offs na afloop van het seizoen. Dit wil zeggen dat er dit seizoen dus meer dan twee teams zullen zakken van Eerste naar Tweede Klasse.
