Bei Shizhang is a renowned Chinese biologist and educator. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was born in Zhenhai, Zhejiang province on 10 October 1903. He is now the oldest member of both the Academia Sinica and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the founder, the first chief director and current honorary director of the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a pioneer of Chinese cytology, embryology and the founder of Chinese biophysics.
