We endorse commitment and engagement in ideological struggles. We resist the temptation to patronisingly tolerate otherness and accept it as a 'necessary evil' of economic, social and cultural globalisation. Tolerance as an injunction is the emerging bagatelle of subsiding ideology, a post-political ersatz for political action. We refuse to pay homage to an intellectual liberalism, a culture of equivalence where 'anything goes'. If 'anything goes', nothing goes. We repudiate the injunction to write-off the violations of principles which we consider as constitutive of humanity as interesting ethnological peculiarities or historical contingencies. We have the duty to take a stance, academically and politically. We are obliged to have an opinion, to criticise and evaluate. We renounce the intellectual's condescension that sees 'the masses' as a mentally inferior mob that favours emotion over reason, is interested in personalities and crass reality more than abstraction and principles, is susceptible to dogmatism, responsive to force and not kindness etc. We aim to demonstrate that our present predicament stems largely by an apparent incapacity and unwillingness to be ideologically committed, to be determined by the world which we inhabit and, also, by a promiscuous fixation to merely enjoy our culture, to be elevated above it and free to choose it. By elevating ourselves above our culture, we condemn it to vulgarism. We aim to propose that the so-called end of history, namely the end of ideological projects, the termination of our ability to predict and plan our own futures, the capitulation to an inarticulate corporeality and gesturality that facilitates non-belief and ideological abstinence can be obscured by a discourse which is itself evidence of the opposite. We publish on this website and the Magazine and we promote through the Collective the works of philosophers, artists, critics, thinkers and writers committed to the reinstatement of action to the locus it belongs to: ideology.
