Yunan komutan Prens Constantine üç tümeni ile geçitte cepheden hücum ederken bir diğer tumeni batıdan ve bir başka tümeni ise daha da batıdan ile Osmanlı birliklerini arkadan çevirmeyi planlamaktaydı. 9 Ekim gecesi başlayan Yunan hücumuna karşı Osmanlı ordusu bir Yunan tümenin geriye sarkacağını doğru tahmin ederek gece karanlığı ve devamlı yağış gösteren havanın bozukluğundan da faydalarak düzenli olarak Selanik'e doğru geri çekilmeyi başardı. Yunan ordusunun 182 ölü 995 yaralı ve 1. Piyade Alayı kayıp idi. Osmanlı ordusunun ise kaybı bilinmemektedir.
