The Battle of Keresztes or Battle of Mezokeresztes (in Turkish Haçova Muharebesi) took place on October 24–26, 1596, between a combined Habsburg-Transylvanian force and the Ottoman Empire, near the village of Mezőkeresztes (or in Turkish Haçova) in northern Hungary.   • A mezőkeresztesi csata, amelyet a Miksa főherceg vezetése alatt álló császári, magyar és a Báthory Zsigmond vezette erdélyi hadak (50-60 000 ember) vívtak III. Mehmed szultán seregével (130-150 000 ember), 1596. október 25-26-án Mezőkeresztesnél zajlott. Az első nap úgy tűnt, a magyarok győznek, maga a szultán is megfutamodott a harctérről. A keresztények minden elővigyázatosságot félredobva elkezdtek zsákmányolni a harctéren, mire ezt a törökök kihasználták és rácsaptak a győzőkre, akiket csúfosan megszalasztottak. A csatát megelőző nemzetközi összefogás felvillantotta annak a lehetőségét, hogy a törököt – Mohács után hetven évvel – kiűzhetik Magyarország és Erdély területéről, de ez nem történt meg.

W bitwie zmierzyły się oddziały osmańskie dowodzone przez Mehmeda III oraz armia austriacka arcyksięcia Maksymiliana Habsburga i sprzymierzone z nią siły siedmiogrodzkie księcia Zygmunta Batorego. Obie armie oddzielała mała rzeczka, która obu stronom utrudniała działania zbrojne. Przez pierwsze dwa dni Osmanowie próbowali sforsować rzekę, za każdym razem jednak zostawali odparci. Trzeciego dnia to jednak Austriakom udało się w końcu sforsować przeszkodę, ponieśli jednak ciężką porażkę w wyniku kontrataku Turków. Austriacy stracili w bitwie 8 000 ludzi z łącznej liczby 40 000.
