- La Batalla de Golpejera tuvo lugar el 12 de enero de 1072 y enfrentó a los ejércitos del rey de Castilla, Sancho II, y del rey de León, Alfonso VI, en el campo de Golpejera, junto a Carrión de los Condes. Motivada por las aspiraciones territoriales del rey castellano Sancho II que deseaba hacerse con el Reino de León que, tras la muerte de su padre Fernando I, había correspondido a su hermano Alfonso VI. Las tropas de Sancho, comandadas por El Cid, vencieron a las de Alfonso que fue hecho prisionero por su hermano y encarcelado en Toledo, por lo que el rey castellano pudo volver a unificar los reinos que había poseído su padre. nota adjunta: tras últimos estudios de la universidad de navarra, la batalla tuvo lugar en la localidad de villarmentero de campos, situado a 10 km de carrion de los condes, todavía allí hoy existen los pagos denominados "golpejera", "la matanza", o "las tiendas".
