- Bara is a Malagasy dialect spoken by the Bara people in southern Madagascar, roughly the regions Ihorombe and Atsimo AndrefanaNeighbouring dialects: Tandroy, Tanosy, Mahafaly, Vezo, Tesaka, Tefasy, Temoro, Betsileo, Masikoro Since 2000, the integrated rural development project SoFaBa (Soritr'asa ho fampandrosoana ny faritra Bara) does development work among the Bara people In 2007 the educational project Green Schools Bara was started, running 12 green pilot schools in the Bara region There is some literature written about Bara, for instance Elli's Bara-Italian illustrated dictionary, now sold out
