  • "Baby Don't You Do It" is a 1964 single by American singer Marvin Gaye. Released on the Tamla label, this song discusses a man who is at a standstill with his girlfriend, who he feels is neglecting his love stating "don't break my heart/... I've tried to do my best". Featured on the Holland-Dozier-Holland-written and produced track, for the first time on a Marvin Gaye record, were Motown's top session girl group The Andantes. The song would reach #27 on both the Billboard pop and R&B singles chart (on a technicality since the actual R&B chart was taken out for fourteen months at the most) though Cashbox had the song peaking at #14 on the R&B chart. The song is widely regarded as a Mod classic and both the Small Faces and The Who recorded their own versions of the song. The Band also recorded it numerous times under the title "Don't Do It"; the different versions, both studio and live, appear on several of their albums and box sets (the only one to be released as a single came from Rock of Ages), as well as in their 1976 concert film The Last Waltz. The song's title was also the name of an episode of That '70s Show.
