- Brandon Hugh 'Babe' Laufenberg is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League who played for the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He also played for the Ohio Glory in the World League of American Football. Laufenberg was drafted in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Redskins. He led the team to several come-from-behind wins over the course of three preseasons but had injury problems, leading one Redskins follower to call him "probably the most famous Redskin never to play a down in an NFL game in a Washington uniform. " He started five games for the Chargers (team went 2-3) after being released by Washington, following the retirement of Chargers' quarterback Dan Fouts. Laufenberg took over as Cowboy quarterback in 1990 after Troy Aikman separated his shoulder during a Week 15 game in Philadelphia. Dallas needed a victory to qualify for the postseason, but Laufenberg was ineffective in losses to the Eagles and Atlanta Falcons, and was released at the end of the season. Laufenberg's most enduring contribution as a Cowboy player might have been giving fullback Daryl Johnston the nickname "Moose."
