Etter en rekke engasjementer på forskjellige teatre opp gjennom 1960-årene, utdannet Baard Owe seg til soneterapeut og forsøkte seg også med et teologistudium. I 1962 deltok han i den danske finalen i Melodi Grand Prix og kom på en tredje plass med sangen Er det virk'lig sandt. Denne karakteristiske og markante skuespilleren er kjent fra en mengde spillefilmer og TV. Især fra Riget, som professor Bondo og fra serien Hotellet, som den mystiske altmuligmann. Han har i mange år vært gift med skuespilleren Marie-Louise Coninck som han har flere barn sammen med, bl.a. David Owe som også har utdannet seg til skuespiller.
