BBC Studios was set up as a commercial entity in 1998 as part of BBC Resources Ltd, providing TV studio facilities at Television Centre in London and Elstree, UK, and employing around 350 staff. The division is being "retained by the Corporation as a commercial business" after failing to find a suitable buyer. BBC Resources was the first of the BBC's commercial business-to-business divisions to be set up as a limited company and is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC.
