The main shortcoming could be somewhat of a nationalist myopia, resulting in a strong focus on models available for sale in Germany to the exclusion of many model variants that are only available elsewhere. Yearly sales figures and a heavy technical section are also included, to the joy of anoraks the world over.

Zur Verlagsgruppe gehören unter anderem auch die Zeitschriften Auto Straßenverkehr und sport auto. Der Inhalt besteht hauptsächlich aus Test- und Fahrberichten von Pkw, Neuvorstellungen von Pkw sowie Reportagen aus den Bereichen Freizeit und Motorsport. Weitere Schwerpunkte sind die Themen Technik, Gebrauchtwagen, Verkehr und Umwelt sowie Wirtschaft. Die Zeitschrift vergibt jährlich die Auszeichnung „Die Besten Autos“, bei der unter allen Einsendungen der Leser drei aktuelle Autos verlost werden, und führt Imagebefragungen über die Hersteller bei den Lesern durch. Hierdurch hat die auto, motor und sport eine hohe Bedeutung in der Automobilbranche erlangt.
