- Austin Gibbs was born in Houston, TX in 1986 and spent much of his childhood in Southern California. After a move to Mesa, AZ in 2001, Austin’s passion for singing and songwriting blossomed along with his gift to create music. He began playing live shows with a group of friends and collectively they were known as Austin Gibbs and The States. They released a self-recorded demo in 2007, which housed fan favorites Vanilla, Wolf Mountain and I Think I Could Love You. In the spring of 2008, Austin Gibbs and The States won a battle of the bands to perform on the main stage at the Circle K Tempe Music Festival, one of Arizona’s largest music festivals . He took the stage in front of a crowd of 12,000 directly before the headlining act, the Gin Blossoms. Austin Gibbs and the States went on to perform Bamboozle Left with the likes of the All American Rejects, Paramore and Jimmy Eat World. Later that spring Phoenix’s alternative rock radio, FM 103.9 took notice of Austin. The station invited the band to open local, widely-publicized shows for the Presidents of the United States of America and Dear and the Headlights. In the fall of 2008, Austin continued to write music while touring as a member of the band Brighten. In January 2009, Austin recorded his self-titled EP with Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Studios in Mesa, AZ. The EP was released in April 2009. Austin signed with Pheonix, AZ based management company "Echodog Music" in the spring of 2009 and began recording his first studio album in Chandler, AZ with Nate Barna, previously of Resonate Music in Los Angeles, CA. The recordings have an organic, mellow singer-songwriter vibe and showcase a deeper side of Austin Gibbs. He has successfully created a unique sound that, as one fan put it, “captures your heart. ” He writes from the soul about dreams, friends, travels, falling in and out of love and lines in movies have even been known to inspire the next song. “I have met musicians who have talked about how they just write songs for themselves," Gibbs said. "They don’t need to reach out to people, because if they like the music they will come. I feel like there are way too many people in the world to sit back and wait. I try to keep it simple, because I love writing like I talk. ” In July 2009 Austin was listed in MySpace's top Alternative musicians from Arizona, amongst greats such as Jimmy Eat World and the Gin Blossoms. In early summer 2009 Austin signed licensing agreements with Bunim-Murray for his songs to appear on MTV’s Real World, Road Rules and The Stylist, along with E’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Austin will also perform the Arizona Fall Frenzy 2009 with Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Social Distortion, Jason Mraz, Ben Harper and more. While writing and recording, Austin continued to play gigs throughout Arizona, including an appearance on Arizona State University campus with Okkervil River. He is currently looking forward to a fall 2009 tour that will support the release of his first full-length album.
