Healey built a single "Healey 100" for the 1952 London Motor Show, and the design impressed Leonard Lord, Managing Director of Austin so much that a deal was struck with Healey to build it in quantity at Austin's Longbridge factory. The car was renamed the Austin-Healey 100. The "100" name comes from Donald Healey, who named it after the fact that this was one of the few cars of the era which could achieve 100 mph (160 km/h), as opposed to the Austin-Healey 3000, which is named for its 3000 cc engine.

Nel 1956 venne presentata la 100-6, con un nuovo motore 6 cilindri in linea di 2639 cc (alesaggio per corsa 77x89 mm) e 102 CV, derivato da quello delle Austin A90 Westminster. Due le versioni disponibili: la BN4 2+2 e la BN6 a due posti secchi. Entrambe restarono a catalogo fino al 1958, quando furono sostituite dalla Austin-Healey 3000.
