Major-General Augustus Abbott was an army officer in the British East India Company. Augustus was the eldest sibling of several brothers that had very successful careers in the East India Company's military. He was born in London and at the age of fifteen departed England for India where he was involved in several military campaigns including First Anglo-Afghan War. Eventually he was discharged from the military due to poor health and retired to Cheltenham where he died.
