Augustine Birrell PC, KC (19 January 1850 – 20 November 1933) was an English politician, barrister, academic and author. He was Chief Secretary for Ireland from 1907 to 1916, resigning in the immediate aftermath of the Easter Rising.

Figlio di un pastore Nonconformista (ovvero non appartenente alla Chiesa Anglicana), nato vicino a Liverpool, è stato istruito alla Amersham Hall School ed alla Trinity Hall di Cambridge. Nel 1893 viene nominato KC (King's Counsel) ed insegna legge all' University College dal 1896 a 1899.
