CDs sind begehrte Sammlerstücke. 2005 erschienen die drei Studioalben als Wiederveröffentlichungen mit jeweils einigen Bonustracks (Demo Aufnahmen & Instrumentals) bei Relapse Records. Nach Einspielung des ersten Albums starb Roger Patterson bei einem Unfall mit dem Tourbus am 12. Februar 1991 und wurde durch Tony Choy am Bass ersetzt, der bei der Einspielung der beiden Folgealben mitwirkte. Anfang 2006 hat sich die Band reformiert.

Atheist se sépare une première fois en 1992, le groupe se réunit en 1993 et enregistre Elements avant de se séparer pour la seconde fois. Les membres d'Atheist étaient proches des membres de DEATH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SADUS, CYNIC, MORBID ANGEL... et faisaient partie de la vague death de Tampa. Pour l'anecdote, l'album Elements eut un line-up très original avec trois guitaristes qui se relayaient ou jouaient ensemble sur certains morceaux (Shaeffer, Burkey, Emmi). Le batteur ne rejoignit les membres du groupe sur cet album que tardivement. En 2006, ils décidèrent de se reformer pour faire quelques dates en Europe dont le Wacken open air festival. Le guitariste Burkey ne put participer à cette réunion à cause de démélés avec la justice. En 2008 le groupe annonce la sortie d'un 4éme album studio pour 2009. Kelly Schaefer a joué dans Neurotica jusqu'en 2002. Tony Choy a joué dans nombre d'autres groupes dont Pestilence et Cynic.
