Asleep in the Back is the debut album by the band Elbow, released in May 2001. The title track, "Asleep in the Back," was included as a bonus track on later editions of the album after it had been released as a single. There are four different versions of the album: a 12-track version, two 11-track versions only featuring either "Asleep in the Back" or "Can't Stop," and a 10-track version including neither of them. The record was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2001.

An album's worth of recorded material had been scrapped by the band several years earlier after they were dropped by Island Records.
