Its investigative staff has been awarded some of the highest honors in journalism including the Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting, the Associated Press Managing Editors' Award for Public Service, and the National Headliner Award for Public Service. The newspaper was also the home to editorial cartoonist Steve Breen when he won the Pulitzer Prize in that category in 1998. The Press was also known for many years for its excellent Sunday comic strips. It once carried the full page Prince Valiant by Hal Foster, half page Tarzan and Star Wars by Russ Manning and third of a page Steve Canyon by Milton Caniff.
