- Arnold of Egmond (14 July 1410, Egmond-Binnen – 23 February 1473, Grave) was Duke of Guelders, Count of Zutphen. He was son of John II of Egmond and Maria van Arkel. In 1423, Arnold of Egmond, who was still a boy in years, succeeded Duke Reinoud IV. Arnold descends from Reinoud’s sister, Marguerite. Although the Emperor Sigismund had invested the Duke of Berg with the duchy of Gelders, Arnold retained the confidence of the Estates by enlarging their privileges, and enjoyed the support of Duke Philip of Burgundy. Arnold was betrothed, and afterwards united in marriage to Catherine of Cleves née Valois, a niece of Philip of Burgundy. Subsequently, however, Duke Arnold fell out with his ally as to the succession to the see of Utrecht; whereupon Philip joined with the four chief towns of Gelderland in the successful attempt of Arnold's son Adolf to substitute his own for his father's authority. When Charles the Bold became Duke of Burgundy in 1467, after rejecting a compromise, Adolph was thrown into prison. Arnold, against the will of the towns and the law of the land, pledged his duchy to Charles for 300,000 Rhenish florins (1471). Upon Arnold's death two years later, Charles took possession of the duchy.

Bis zum Jahr 1436 stand er unter der Vormundschaft seines Vaters. Arnold von Egmond heiratete am 23. Juli 1423 in Kleve Katharina von Kleve (1417-1479). Mit ihr hatte er einen Sohn Adolf von Egmond und eine Tochter Maria. In zweiter Ehe war er mit Katharina von Straßburg verheiratet. Im Zweiten Geldrischen Erbfolgekrieg unterlag er am 3. November 1444 in der Schlacht bei Linnich dem Herzog Gerhard von Jülich-Berg.

Arnold acquit le soutien de ses états en leur accordant des privilèges, et obtint l'appui de Philippe le Bon, duc de Bourgogne, dont il épousa une nièce. Mais Arnold se brouilla en 1457 avec le duc à propos de l'élection de l'évêque d'Utrecht, et Philippe, avec l'appui des cités de Gueldre et d'Adolphe, le fils aîné d'Arnold, le renversa et le remplaça par Adolphe. Arnold fut alors emprisonné. Philippe le Bon mourut en 1467 et son fils Charles le Téméraire lui succéda, et ne voulut pas être allié à un ami des municipalité. Adolphe, après l'échec de négociations avec Charles, fut emprisonné et Arnold redevint duc. Contre l'avis des villes, Arnold se laissa circonvenir par Charles et lui laissa le duché de Gueldre en viager, contre la somme de 300.000 florins rhénans. A la mort d'Arnold, Charles le Téméraire prit possession du duché de Gueldre.
