"Are You Ready for Love" is a 1979 song recorded by Elton John, written by Leroy Bell, Thom Bell and Casey James, and originally produced by Thom Bell for the 1979 EP "The Thom Bell Sessions. " Interestingly, while Elton charted in 1979 with the single "Mama Can't Buy You Love" from the EP, this song and another track released on the three-track 12-inch vinyl disc, "Three Way Love Affair," were only minor footnotes at the time.

  • "Are You Ready for Love" is a 1979 song recorded by Elton John, written by Leroy Bell, Thom Bell and Casey James, and originally produced by Thom Bell for the 1979 EP "The Thom Bell Sessions. " Interestingly, while Elton charted in 1979 with the single "Mama Can't Buy You Love" from the EP, this song and another track released on the three-track 12-inch vinyl disc, "Three Way Love Affair," were only minor footnotes at the time. In 1989, MCA released a 6-track CD, "The Complete Thom Bell Sessions," with "Mama Can't Buy You Love," "Three Way Love Affair" and a curiously different mix of "Are You Ready For Love" than the one that appeared on the original EP (see listing for "The Complete Thom Bell Sessions" for more details), along with three previously unreleased songs: "Nice and Slow," an Elton John-Bernie Taupin composition, "Country Love Song" and an alternate version of "Shine on Through," by Elton and Gary Osborne, than that which was released on Elton's album "A Single Man". In 2003, it was remixed by Ashley Beedle and released as a 12" vinyl single by Southern Fried Records (catalogue number ECB50) in the United Kingdom on 25 August 2003 and gave Elton a #1 hit in the English top 40 singles chart on its first week of release, due to its being featured in a television advertisement for Sky Sports promoting the new English Premier League season of that year. In the US, the song became a top dance hit, reaching #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart in January 2004.. Various hit R&B vocalists of the late 1970s, including Bell & James, M.F.S.B. and The Spinners, contribute backing and accompanying lead vocals, most prominent on the Thom Bell Sessions mixes of the song, but downplayed somewhat in the 2003 single remix and its edits. In 1979, The Spinners, or Detroit Spinners as known in the UK, also recorded a version of the song which didn't chart either side of the Atlantic. The single's B-side is "Three Way Love Affair" (from the original EP) and also the Full Length 1979 Version of "Are You Ready for Love. " On some CD versions, the CD also contains a Quicktime version of a video for the song, with recording studio footage from 1979 with Elton recording his vocals, intercut with concert and other clips from his heyday, including footage from Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium gig in 1975.
