He married Mary Burn (d. 17 Aug 2007 Edinburgh), on 7 April 1954 and they had three children: Lady Elizabeth Helen Kennedy Archibald Angus Charles Kennedy, 8th Marquess of Ailsa Lord David Thomas Kennedy Archibald Angus Charles Kennedy, 7th Marquess of Ailsa succeeded to the titles of 18th Earl of Cassilis, 20th Lord Kennedy, 7th Marquess of Ailsa & 7th Baron Ailsa on 31 May 1957. For a period he was lessee of the Isle of Man Railway.
