- For the Perth suburb, see Applecross, Western Australia. The Applecross peninsula (A' Chomraich, 'The Sanctuary' in Gaelic) is a peninsula in Wester Ross, Highland, on the west coast of Scotland. The name Applecross is at least 1300 years old and is not used locally to refer to the 19th century village with the pub and post office, lying on the small Applecross Bay, facing the Inner Sound, on the opposite side of which lies the Inner Hebridean island of Raasay. This row of houses which is often referred to as 'Applecross', and is marked as Applecross on some maps, is actually called 'Shore Street' and is referred to locally just as 'The Street'. The name Applecross applies to all the settlements around the peninsula, including Toscaig, Culduie, Camusterrach, Milltown, Sand, 'The Street', Lonbain and many others. Applecross is also the name of the local estate. The small River Applecross flows into the bay at Applecross. Extremely isolated, Applecross was only accessible by boat until the early 20th century, and for many years after that the only road access was over one of Scotland's most notoriously treacherous roads, the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle), which crosses the peninsula and reaches a maximum height of 2053 ft (626 m), below the 774 m high Sgùrr a' Chaorachain. The settlement is now connected via a winding coastal road which travels around the edge of the peninsula to Shieldaig and Torridon. The road skirts the shore of the Inner Sound and Loch Torridon. Applecross was featured in the television programme Monty Halls' Great Escape.

Die Siedlung wird heute allerdings auch durch eine Küstenstraße mit Shieldaig und Torridon verbunden. Diese Straße verläuft entlang der Küste des Inner Sound und des Loch Torridon.
- Applecross is een groep nederzettingen op het schiereiland Applecross waaronder Toscaig, Culduie, Camusterrach, Milltown en Sand. De naam Applecross komt van het Pictische woord Aporcrosan (samenloop van de Crossan). Historisch gezien is Applecross verbonden met St. Máelrubai, een Ierse Monnik ook wel Maelrubha genoemd, die in 671 naar de Britse Eilanden was gekomen om een abdij te stichten in toen Pictisch gebied. In 672 sticht hij een abdij in het huidige Applecross en noemt de nederzetting Aporcrosan en was de eerste abt van de abdij. De monnik zou op 24 april 722 sterven, toen al over de 80. De abdij zou gebouwd zijn niet ver van waar nu de huidige parochie kerk staat. Op het kerkhof van de kerk staat zijn nog bewijzen te vinden van deze abdij, daar staat namelijk een grootte kruisvormige steen en in de kerk bevinden zich fragmenten van nog andere. Het omliggende gebied van de abdij A' Chomraich(het heiligdom) werd afgebakend met kruisen, een ervan werd vernietigd in 1870 maar werd gebruikt voor het bouwen van een boerderij. Er zijn vele kerken in Skye en noord-Schotland gewijd aan de heilige. Voorbeeld hiervan is het heilige eiland Eilean Ma-Ruibhe in Loch Maree. Het gebied in en rond Applecross wordt verondersteld één van de vroegst bewoonde gebieden te zijn van Schotland. Sand aan de kust is een belangrijke archeologische vindplaats plaats. Tot de 20ste eeuw was Applecross alleen maar te bereiken via de zee of via een van de meest verraderlijke bergpassen van Schotland: Bealach na Ba (Pad van het vee). Deze bergpas rijst tot 626 meter tot onder de berg Sgurr a' Chaorachain (774 m). Vandaag de dag kan men Applecross ook bereiken via een kustweg. Deze weg volgt de kustlijn van Inner Sound en Loch Torridon.
