- The Apostolic Church is a Pentecostal Christian denomination which can trace its origins back to the 1904-1905 Welsh Revival. Despite the relatively recent origin of the denomination, the church seeks to stand for first century Christianity in its faith, practices, and government. The purpose of the denomination is summed up by one prominent Apostolic writer as: "to make known world-wide the forgiveness of sins through the atoning death of Christ; the baptism in water by immersion; the baptism of the Holy Spirit with signs following; the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit; the five gifts of our Ascended Lord; and the vision called in the New Testament, 'the Church which is His Body'. " The worldwide vision of the church is evidenced by a strong missionary concern. The movement which commenced in Welsh-speaking villages of south Wales had, by the end of the twentieth century, grown to over six million members in more than 70 nations. The largest national church is The Apostolic Church of Nigeria, with over 4.5 million members and a national convention centre that seats over 100,000. Ablaze UK (formerly The International Apostolic Convention) has taken place annually over the first week in August since 1916. Until 2002 it was located at the village of Pen-y-groes, Carmarthenshire, and since then in the city of Swansea. Pen-y-groes is the site of the Apostolic Church School of Ministry (founded as the Apostolic Church International Bible School in 1933), the oldest Pentecostal college in Great Britain. There are now also Bible Schools in eleven other countries.

Die größte eigenständige Gebietskirche befindet sich in Nigeria mit mehr als 4,5 Millionen Mitglieder und einer nationalen Versammlungshalle, die mehr als 100.000 Sitzplätze bietet. Die internationale Versammlungstagung Ablaze UK (ehemalig die International Apostolic Convention) findet seit 1916 jährlich über die erste Woche im August statt. Bis 2002 war der Standort im Dorf Pen-y-groes, Camarthenshire festgelegt, seit dann in der Stadt Swansea. Pen-y-groes ist Stätte der apostostolischen Schule Apostolic Church School of Ministry (1933 als Apostolic Church International Bible School gegründet). Sie ist das älteste, pfingstliche College in Grossbritannien. Bis heute gibt es auch Bibelschulen in 11 anderen Ländern. In Deutschland betreut die Apostolische Kirche Gemeinden in Berlin, Flensburg und Uelzen.

Le nom de l'Église est calqué sur l'expression Église une, sainte, catholique et apostolique, du Symbole de Nicée.

Förutom den traditionella pingstförkunnelsen om andedop och tungotal lägger man stor vikt vid bibliska ledar- och tjänstegåvor som profeter och apostlar. 1913 ordinerades bröderna Daniel P Williams och William J Williams till apostel respektive profet inom Apostolic Faith Church (AFC). Tre år senare lämnade man AFC och bildade den apostoliska kyrkan i Wales. Systerkyrkor bildades snart i Skottland och Hereford och 1920 gick dessa tre kyrkor samman i en gemenskap, The Apostolic Church. Kyrkan samlas emellanåt till världskonferenser och finns idag representerad i över 50 olika länder. I Danmark är man känd under namnet Apostolsk Kirke.
