  • APIMONDIA ist der Kurzname des Internationalen Verbandes der Bienenzüchtervereinigungen. Diese Weltorganisation fördert wissenschaftliche, ökologische, soziale und wirtschaftliche Bienenzucht und Imkerei in allen Ländern. Außerdem unterstützt sie weltweit die Zusammenarbeit der Imkerverbände, von wissenschaftlichen Einrichtungen und an Wissenschaft interessierten Personen. Seit 1897 organisiert die APIMONDIA Bienenzüchter-Kongresse in verschiedenen Ländern. 2009 fand der Weltkongress in Montpellier (Frankreich) statt, 2011 wird er in Buenos Aires (Argentinien) stattfinden. Ständige Kommissionen gibt es für Bienenwirtschaft, Bienenbiologie, Bienengesundheit, Bestäubung und Bienenflora, Bienentechnologie, Apitherapie und Bienenzucht. Oberstes Organ ist der Exekutivrat. Ehrenmitglieder aus Deutschland waren die Präsidenten des Deutschen Imkerbundes Fridolin Gnädinger und Erich Schieferstein, der Bienenzuchtberater und Imkermeister Karl Pfefferle und der Bienenwissenschaftler Ludwig Armbruster. Am 29. April 2007 wurde das NS-Opfer Ludwig Armbruster in Bronnbach (Baden) von Präsident Asger Jörgensen gewürdigt.. Am 28. August 2008 nach der Vergiftung von 12.000 Bienenvölkern durch das Neonicotinoid Clothianidin sprach Präsident Jörgensen auf der Imker- und Umweltkundgebung vor dem Regierungspräsidium Freiburg im Breisgau.
