It did considerably well for a radio only single, hitting #1 on the Mainstream rock chart and holding it for 6 weeks, #16 on the Modern rock chart, and even managing to chart on the Hot 100 at #97. In Australia the single managed to rise to #27. "Animals" is often cited as a fan favorite off All the Right Reasons, even though most (particularly those outside the U.S. ) do not realize it was released as a single. A worldwide release is not planned, and Nickelback stated that the re-release of "Rockstar" is the final single off the album. The single cover is a nod to the cover of Faith No More's EP Songs to Make Love To.

Utwór utrzymany jest w mocnym hardrockowym brzmieniu. Piosenka emitowana była jedynie w amerykańskich i kanadyjskich rozgłośniach radiowych, nie powstał do niej jednak teledysk. Utwór odniósł zaskakująco duży sukces jak na singel radiowy, zdobył pierwsze miejsce na liście Mainstream Rock Tracks, zajmował je przez 6 tygodni, zajął także 16 miejsce na Modern Rock Tracks, a w notowaniu Hot 100 zajął miejsce 97. W Australii singel dotarł do miejsca 27. Utwór bardzo często grany jest podczas koncertów zespołu.
