Animal genetic resources for food and agriculture (often shortened to “animal genetic resources” or “AnGR” and sometimes referred to as “livestock biodiversity” or simply “livestock diversity”) are a subset of genetic resources (defined by the Convention on Biological Diversity as “genetic material of actual or potential value”) and an element of agricultural biodiversity. The term animal genetic resources is often used to refer specifically to the genetic resources of avian and mammalian species used in or potentially used for food and agriculture purposes.
