A 19th Century community of the Métis people of Canada, the Anglo-Métis, more commonly known as Countryborn, were children of the fur trade; typically of Orcadian, Scottish, or English paternal descent and Aboriginal maternal descent. Their first languages would have been aboriginal and English. It seems likely that some of their fathers spoke Gaelic, thus leading to the development of the dialect of English referred to as "Bungee".
