It is the second largest steel maker in Mainland China. It was incorporated in 1997 when Anshan Iron and Steel injected its cold rolling, wire rod, and thick plate operations into Ansteel. Ansteel is headquartered in Anshan, Liaoning, China.

Zo is onder meer autobouwer Volkswagen klant. In 2005 werd aangekondigd dat Ansteel zal fuseren met sectorgenoot Bensteel (Benxi Steel) om samen de staalreus Anben Steel Group te vormen.
