Anatoly Fyodorovich Dobrynin is a Russian statesman and a former Soviet diplomat and politician. He was Soviet Ambassador to the United States, serving from 1962 to 1986 and most notably during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was appointed by Nikita Khrushchev. Anatoly Dobrynin had the unique experience of serving as Soviet Ambassador to the US during the terms of six US Presidents. The Cold War rivalry made his position one of the key elements of Soviet-US global geopolitical dialogue.

He attended the December 1989 Malta Summit that marked the end of the Cold War. His book, In Confidence: Moscow's Ambassador to Six Cold War Presidents, was published in 1995. Er diente unter fünf verschiedenen russischen Generalsekretären und sechs amerikanischen Präsidenten. Aus dem Amt schied er 1986 aus. Sein Nachfolger als Botschafter wurde Juri Dubinin. Seit 1966 war er Kandidat und ab 1971 Vollmitglied des Politbüros der KPdSU. 1986 wurde er in das Sekretariat des Zentralkomitees der KPdSU gewählt und kehrte nach Moskau zurück. Im Zentralkomitee übernahm er die Leitung der internationalen Abteilung. 1988 schied er aus dem Zentralkomitee aus. Er blieb weiter als Berater Gorbatschows tätig.
