Amdo, also Anduo, Ngambo, is the northeastern-most Tibetan language. It is used alongside Central Tibetan and Khams Tibetan in broadcasting, but shares the Classical Tibetan orthography and is not accorded the status of a separate language. However, it is intelligible neither with Khams nor with Central Tibetan. Unlike those languages, it is not tonal. It retains many word-initial consonant clusters which have been lost in Central Tibetan.
