Born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III in 1979 to Panamanian parents. He began his career in 1995 as an MC in and indie rap group called Emanon. By the end of the 1990s, Blacc was a "stow away" on a Lootpack tour in Europe. He has been referred to as "the indie R. Kelly" by online music retailer Turntable Lab.
