Alfa Romeo 2000 (series 102) is a car produced by the Italian automobile manufacturing company Alfa Romeo as a successor to the 1900. First shown in 1957 on the Turin autosalon, the car was produced in two models, the Berlina with 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) and the Spider with 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) since 1958. In 1960, the Sprint was added. The engine was an enlarged version of the 1900´s four-cylinder displacing 1975 cc.

The cast-iron block and aluminum head engine using single downdraft Solex carburetor produced 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) at 5300 rpm in Berlina and the version used in Sprint and Spider produced 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) at 5900 rpm with two Solex sidedraft carburetors. The 2000 Berlina had gearbox operated via column mounted shifter making space for three people in front. In Spider version the gearchange was located in floor and until 1961 it was pure two seater when 2+2 seater came available. The four-door Berlina was manufactured by Alfa Romeo itself, while the two others were designed and manufactured by the design companies Touring (Spider) and Bertone (Sprint). Only 2,814 of the Berlina, 3,443 of the Spider and 704 of the Sprint were sold worldwide because of their high prices. The 2000 was replaced by the six-cylinder Alfa Romeo 2600, produced from 1961.

Erst 1960 folgte der Sprint (Nr. 102.05) als zweitüriges Coupe hergestellt bei der Firma Bertone und entworfen vom damals noch jungen Giorgio Giugiaro. Die technischen Daten der Fahrzeuge waren für die damalige Zeit sehr beachtenswert. Die 4-Zylinder Motoren (1975 cm³) verfügten über zwei obenliegende Nockenwellen und zwei Doppelvergaser. Die Leistung betrug 115 PS und die Höchstgeschwindigkeit 175 km/h . Fünfganggetriebe und eine moderne Radaufhängung rundeten das Bild ab. Anders als bei der kleineren Alfa Romeo Giulietta stellte sich der große Markterfolg jedoch nicht ein, weil die Fahrzeuge relativ teuer waren . Im Fall der Limousine traf das Design nicht den Geschmack der Zeit. Eine markentypisch sportliche Charakteristik wurde auch vermisst. Neben den europäischen Märkten wurden die 2000er vor allem nach den USA, aber auch nach Südafrika und Australien verkauft. Folgende Stückzahlen wurden laut Standardquelle „Fusi“ hergestellt, wobei in der Literatur aber auch leicht abweichende Zahlen auftauchen. Berlina: 2927 Spider: 3445 Sprint: 706 Nachfolger waren der Alfa Romeo 2600, der ab 1961 den Spider und ein Jahr später Sprint und Berlina ersetzte. Die Unterschiede waren vor allem ein stärkerer Sechszylinder-Motor und verschiedene Veränderungen an der Karosserie. Heute sind die 2000er sowie die 2600er vor allem in der eleganten Spider-Version gesuchte Oldtimer. Die Produktion des Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina wurde ab 1961 von der Brasilianischen Firma Fábrica Nacional de Motores (FNM) bei Rio de Janeiro unter der Bezeichnung FNM 2000 noch bis in die 70er Jahre fortgesetzt. Die Motoren wurden von FNM auf 2,15 Liter, später auf 2,3 Liter vergrößert, auch wurde die Karosserie im Zuge der Modellpflege mehrfach leicht modifiziert. Die Markenbezeichnung „2000“ wurde ab 1971 von Alfa Romeo für die Typenserie Alfa Romeo 1750/2000 nochmals verwendet.

Le vendite della "2000" furono complessivamente deludenti, soprattutto per la berlina che venne prodotta in soli 2.814 esemplari, superata dalla spider con 3.443 esemplari, cui si aggiunsero i 704 della coupé. La causa principale, oltre all'anzianità del progetto, fu l'elevato prezzo di 2.600.000 Lire, poco inferiore a quello della ben più prestigiosa e raffinata Lancia Flaminia. Al fine di colmare, almeno in termini di cilindrata, il divario che la separava dalla concorrente, nel 1961 la "2000" venne rimpiazzata dalla "2600" che, però, non ebbe sorte commerciale migliore. La 2000 venne costruita anche in Brasile fino al 1969 dalla Fàbrica Nacional de Motores, consociata brasiliana dell'Alfa Romeo, con la denominazione di FNM 2000.
