- Alfredo Sanchez Brell is a Spanish film actor, director and producer who made over 150 appearances in film between 1961 and 1996. He remains one of the most used actors in Italian westerns. Sambrell is probably best known in the world of cinema for his roles as henchmen in Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Western films, portraying gang members in the trilogy of films A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More, (1965) and the The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966 and in Once Upon a Time in the West in 1968 he also played the part of firing squad leader in A Fistful of Dynamite (1971). He also acted in countless other westerns prolifically. His largest Spaghetti character was as the main antagonist of Sergio Corbucci's Navajo Joe. He also appeared in several international productions as an extra or bit actor, including Doctor Zhivago and The Wind and the Lion.

Neben seinen Genre-Filmen war Sambrell auch in anspruchsvolleren Produktionen wie Doktor Schiwago (1965), Buñuels Tristana (1970) oder I Picari (1988) zu sehen. 1982 wirkte er in der australischen Fernsehserie „Runaway Island / Auf und davon“ mit. Mehrere Filme produzierte und inszenierte er selbst; meist mit südamerikanischen Ko-Produzenten. Ab den späten 1990er Jahren trat er auch in einigen Filmen Jess Francos auf.

Antes de ser actor fue cantante de rancheras mexicanas y futbolista, compartiendo equipo con el director de cine Joaquín Romero Marchent, quien andaba buscando actores para rodar películas de vaqueros. Aldo Sambrell le aseguró al director español que él sabía montar perfectamente a caballo, aunque era mentira, no obstante Marchent se lo creyó e inició a Sambrell en el mundo del cine con el título "Tres hombres buenos" en 1963. Aunque no acreditado, figuró en la película de 1961 "Rey de reyes". Aldo Sambrell casi siempre actuaba en papeles muy secundarios, no obstante es uno de los poquísimos actores que figura en las tres películas de Sergio Leone del western: Por un puñado de dólares, La muerte tenía un precio y El bueno, el feo y el malo, precisamente durante el rodaje de la segunda entrega del eurowestern tuvo un hijo y pidió a Leone que lo apadrinara. También actuó en la célebre Hasta que llegó su hora Quizá su papel más destacado fue en el también eurowestern Navajo Joe de Sergio Corbucci, junto a actores como Burt Reynolds, Fernando Rey o Álvaro de Luna. Cuando el spaguetti western pasó de moda, Sambrell rodó bajo órdenes de directores como Orson Welles, John Huston, George Cukor, David Linch o Jesús Franco También ha dirigido algunos largometrajes, firmando casi siempre con su nombre verdadero. En 2003 el escritor José Manuel Serrano Cueto escribe el libro "Aldo Sambrell, la mirada más despiadada", donde se entrevista al actor recorriendo toda su trayectoria artística.
