An Albergo (Alberghi in plural) was an informal clan-like amalgamation of nobility, in which several lesser noble or patrician families bonded around a dominant noble House. Families of an Albergo shared the same: name, insignia, political views, and economic interests. They lived in proximity of each other, attended the same churches, socialized, and often married within the group.
