Alan Splet (1939–1995) was an Academy Award winning sound designer and sound editor. He worked on numerous film projects throughout his career, including Eraserhead, Dune, Blue Velvet and The Black Stallion for which he won the Oscar. He had a long-lasting and fruitful working relationship with the director David Lynch, with whom he worked on many films. He did not attend the Academy Award ceremony where he won, and became the butt of a series of jokes by Johnny Carson.
