Having started out as an advertising executive, Butchart moved into the world of film and television in 2003, writing the highly acclaimed indie arthouse film I Love Your Work with actor and director Adam Goldberg. The film, an indictment on celebrity culture was not a commercial success but became part of film school curriculum, with a cast including Giovanni Ribisi, Christina Ricci, Joshua Jackson, Jason Lee, Vince Vaughn and Elvis Costello. Butchart also wrote the popular Goal! movies with producer Mike Jefferies. The first installment, Goal! The Dream Begins with contributions from veteran British writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais is the story of a young illegal immigrant, rising from poverty to become one of the World's greatest players. It was released by Disney and was shown in 38 countries worldwide. It went on to become the highest selling sports movie in the UK DVD market. Butchart was again one of the key writers on the sequel, Goal! 2: Living the Dream... , which featured David Beckham. In 2007 he produced the horror/thriller From Within written by Brad Keene, directed by Phedon Papamichael and starring Elizabeth Rice, Thomas Dekker, Adam Goldberg, Laura Allen and Rumer Willis. Because of his background in advertising he has successfully advised many corporate clients in branded entertainment and continues to be active in film and television.
