Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role is one of the Academy Awards of Merit presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to recognize an actress who has delivered an outstanding performance while working within the film industry. Since its inception, however, the award has commonly been referred to as the "Oscar for Best Supporting Actress".

Moins prestigieux que l'Oscar de la meilleure actrice, son attribution est logiquement moins soumise aux pressions médiatique et financière. Trata-se de um dos prêmios dados pela Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas desde 1937. Inicialmente, o troféu para este prêmio era uma placa. Para este prêmio, as atrizes são indicadas pelos atores e atrizes membros da Academia e as vencedoras são escolhidas por todos os seus membros. Os filmes são escolhidos em geral entre aqueles lançados no ano anterior; por exemplo, o Oscar de atriz coadjuvante de 1999 foi anunciado na cerimônia realizada em 2000.
