Aamir ibn `Abdullah ibn al-Jarrah (583-638), more commonly known as Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, was one of the ten companions of the Islamic prophet Muhammad who were promised Paradise as mentioned in early Islamic historical accounts and records. He remained commander of a large section of Muslim armies during the time of Caliph Umar ('Umar ibn al-Khattab) and was on the list of Umar's appointed successors to the Caliphate.

Tijdens het kalifaat van Omar werd hij als commandant aangesteld tegen het leger van Damascus. Onder het volk maakte hij door zijn oprechtheid en rechtvaardigheid een grote indruk waardoor velen van de bevolking zich vrijwillig tot de islam bekeerden. Op ongeveer 58-jarige leeftijd zou hij gestorven zijn en is hij in Balka, in Jordanië begraven.
